MANILA, Philippines – Senator Richard Gordon has asked his volunteers to rally behind Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III who is leading by a wide margin in the presidential race.
In a phone interview on Tuesday noon, Gordon told the Philippine Daily Inquirer: "The people have spoken. I would like to congratulate Noynoy Aquino on his spectacular victory. I wish him well and I hope the country wins this time."

He also asked his volunteers "to support the new government" as he said he was happy to return to private life and continue his volunteer work with the Philippine Red Cross.
He also congratulated the teachers who served as Board of Election Inspectors and the Filipino people who bravely faced a lot of challenges for the country's first automated election.
Gordon is the author of the election automation law.
He said that despite some glitches, the counting of votes was quick and teachers no longer needed to work for long hours as in the past manual elections.
