F1 Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying: Webber Takes Pole

Red Bull maintained their perfect record in qualifying, taking the first two positions on the grid for the fifth-straight race with Mark Webber edging teammate Sebastian Vettel for pole position. Webber clocked a best time of 1 minute and 19.995 seconds. Vettel came in second with a best lap of 1 minute and 20.101 seconds.

It is the third 1-2 qualifying result for Red Bull and Webber’s second pole. Vettel has emerged on pole three times. Lewis Hamilton will start third in his McLaren, followed by Ferrari teammates Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button, who currently leads the drivers’ championship. Michael Schumacher, riding his revamped Mercedes for the first time, registered his best qualifying result by taking sixth place with 1 minute 21.294 seconds.

Defending champion Button will try to rack up more points tomorrow and increase his ten-point lead over second-running Nico Rosberg, who has 50 points after four races. Hamilton and Alonso are tied in third place with 49 points. Vettel is in fourth place with 45 points followed by Felipe Massa, who has 41.
