CEBU CITY, Philippines – Commission on Elections Central Visayas director Dennis Ausan placed the voter turnout in the region at 80 percent as 7 p.m. on Monday, the voting deadline.
In a press conference at the Regional Police Office at Camp Sergio Osmeña Monday night, Ausan said the elections in Central Visayas was a success and all precincts functioned normally.
He said that some precincts were already tabulating the votes but admitted some precincts were still accepting voters because they were within the 30-meter radius of the polling centers as of the 7 p.m. deadline for casting votes.
At the Lahug Elementary School, the number of voters who cast their votes was still below the 400-mark as of 6 p.m.
Ausan said the Comelec would present the election statistics by Tuesday morning.
Chief Supt. Lani-o Nerez, the police regional director said the election in Central Visayas was generally peaceful.
But the Visayas Command assured the public that while they have deployed troops in the provinces, they still maintained a reserve battalion, which might be deployed anywhere in the Visayas if needed.
