Legarda concedes in VP race

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Loren Legarda of the Nacionalista Party has accepted her second defeat in the vice presidential race.

"Ako ay masaya at payapa ang isip [I am happy and I have peace of mind]," Legarda told reporters at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City on Tuesday afternoon.

She also greeted Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III and Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay for their "victory."

"I sincerely wish them well for the sake of the country," she said.

Legarda was the running-mate of NP standard-bearer Senator Manuel Villar, who had conceded the presidential race early in the day.

Legarda ran for vice president in 2004 alongside the late movie king Fernando Poe, Jr., but lost to Vice President Noli de Castro. She filed an electoral protest against De Castro but also lost.
