Eminem is back and he’s hot!
The rapper grabs the number one spot in the Hot 100 charts with his new single “Not Afraid” and leads the pack with a whopping 380,000 digital downloads of his new single, making him a shoo-in at number one for the Digital Songs chart this week as well. Eminem’s numbers represent the biggest sales week for a digital track for 2010 so far.
“Not Afraid” is the lead single from the rapper’s new album titled "Recovery," which is set for release on June 22. This latest Eminem single is his third chart topper, his previous ones being “Lose Yourself” in 2002-03 and “Crack A Bottle” with Dr. Dre and 50 Cent in February of 2009. “Not Afraid” is the first tune to debut at number one at the Billboard Hot 100 since October of 2009, when Britney Spears’ “3” did the same.
This is only the 16th time that a new single debuts directly at number one in the chart’s nearly 52-year history. Other achievers include Britney Spears, Michael Jackson with “You Are Not Alone,” “Fantasy” and “Honey” by Mariah Carey, “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” by Whitney Houston, “One Sweet Day” by Boyz II Men with Mariah Carey, “I’ll Be Missing You” by Puff Daddy& Faith Evans, “Candle in the Wind/The Way You Look Tonight” by Elton John, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith, “Doo Wop (That Thing)” by Lauryn Hill, and American Idol’s “This is the Night” by Clay Aiken, “I Believe” by Fantasia, “Inside Your Heaven” by Carrie Underwood, and “Do I Make You Proud” by Taylor Hicks.
Elsewhere in the singles chart, last week’s number one song “OMG” by Usher (featuring will.i.am) drops to number two. The same goes for B.o.B.’s “Nothin’ on You,” which likewise slides a notch to number three.
Taio Cruz, though, stays at his number four standing for another week with “Break Your Heart.” B.o.B. meanwhile, climbs two notches with “Airplane.” The single, which features Eminem and Haley Williams of Paramore, improves on last week’s number seven spot to finish at number five this week.
Rihanna loses some valuable chart position, as “Rude Boy” drops three notches from number three to number six this week. Train also slows further down the chart track, as “Hey, Soul Sister” slides down from six to seven.
Party Girl Ke$ha holds on to her number eight spot with “Your Love Is My Drug,” while another song that features Ke$ha, namely “My First Kiss” by 3OH!3, debuts at the top ten singles chart at number nine. Closing out this week’s rundown of the hottest songs in the US is country act Lady Antebellum with “Need You Now,” which goes down five notches to finish this week at number ten.
Godsmack, meanhwhile, tops the Billboard album charts with their new set "The Oracle." It’s three for three for vocalist Sully Erna and company as the heavy metal act moves 117,000 units of their new album to enter the Billboard 200.
"The Oracle" is the third Godsmack album to debut at number one. Their previous number one albums include 2006’s "IV" and "Faceless" back in 2003. The new album’s 117,000 units, though respectable, is their lowest first week opener as compared to "IV" with 211,000 and "Faceless" with 267,000.
