Webby Awards Honor Roger Ebert, Jim Carrey, Amy Poehler
The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences has announced this year’s winners of the annual Webby Awards, which honor the achievers in the Internet world. Leading this year’s honor roll is film critic and cancer survivor Roger Ebert, who was picked by the 550-member Academy as Person of the Year.
Other winners include former Saturday Night Live cast member Amy Poehler, who was named Best Actress of the Year for her online series “Smart Girls at the Party,” while Jim Carrey’s official site won the Best Celebrity/Fan Web site.
Ebert was cited for “raising the bar for online journalism.” The Webby also recognized Ebert’s “unparalleled level of engagement with followers and fans.” Ebert has continued to be the leading voice in film criticism despite losing his ability to speak due to the effects of facial surgery to remove cancer.
Other notable honorees are rock band OK Go as Video Artist of the Year and Muppets’ “Bohemian Rhapsody” cover as Viral Video of the Year.
The 14th Annual Webby Awards will be held on June 14 in New York City. The event will be hosted by B.J. Novak of “The Office.”
